There was a time when features like disc brakes and ABS were available only in expensive or sports bikes. The main reason for this is the mutual competition between the motorcycle manufacturers. The motorcycle manufacturer is also doing this to attract more customers. At the same time there are advantages of disc brake system, it makes the braking system very strong. The question is, why are there holes in the disc brakes used in two-wheelers?

Advantage of holes in disc brake

It is very important to have holes in the disc brake of a motorcycle. It has not one but two big advantages which are very important for your safety as well as your bike. The disc brakes in the bike work on a mechanism. The disc brake plate installed in any motorcycle is placed inside the disc pad which covers the disc plate from both the sides.

When you apply brakes while riding a motorcycle, these disc pads rub the disc plate from both the sides and start pressing hard, due to which your motorcycle stops. Even if you do not apply brakes, this disc plate keeps on rubbing very fast in between the disc pads. In such a situation, the disc brake plate of the bike gets very hot. It gets so hot that if you touch it with bare hands, your hands will burn badly. Now at this place the holes in the disc brake plate do their work.

When the disc plates become very hot due to friction while rotating between the pads, then their excessive heat continues to come out rapidly through those holes. If the disc brake of the bike does not have holes, then the heat of the plate will not be able to get out fast and its temperature will be so high that it will break. Due to which a big accident can happen to you. Apart from this, the holes in the plate of disc brake play another big role.

When you ride your bike during rains, you must have noticed that you do not face any problem in braking and your bike stops easily when you apply brakes. During the rains, when there is continuous water coming on your disc brakes, then they quickly go out through the holes on the disc plate. If the disc brake of the bike does not have holes, then the water coming on the disc plate will not be able to come out fast and slippery will be created inside the disc pad.

When you apply the brakes, the disc pads made of leather will slide between the disc plates and there will be no friction between them. In such a situation, despite applying brakes, your bike will not stop, due to which a major accident can also happen. The holes in the disc brake plate of the bike do two major things. It not only removes the heat from the disc plate, but also helps in keeping the disc pad dry.
